I guess if I don't want to allow the bitwarden extension to have access to my data on "all sites" then I'll have to change the " Allow this extension to read and change all your data on websites you visit" option to "on specific sites"Īctually that didn't fix it. I don't particularly want to expose those passwords to being read by the bitwarden extension if I'm not using the extension for those websites (why should I have to?). Bitlocker handles almost everything but it doesn't handle my email accounts which are most critical and I already have extended passwords memorized and 2FA for my email accounts. Maybe I shouldn't be changing that setting to "on click only"? My thought process was to segregate some of my most important things into buckets.

(*) - maybe the prompt for a password upon changing to all sites is a clue that for some reason the chrome extension had lost track of my password? So for me the error seems repeatably related to the setting the site access to "on click" rather than "all sites" I can now add an identity and save it (and I didn't have to uninstall /reinstall the extension). If I then switch the setting back to "all websites", then the next time I click it prompts me for my password (* ) and then it works fine. After that, I get the error even for simple things like trying to add an identity (which has nothing to do with accessing any website). I finally figured out that the error only seems to occur after I go into "manage extensions" and switch the option "Allow this extension to read and change all your data on websites you visit:" to be "on click" (rather than "all websites"). I have gone through the cycle at least 10 times. The problem is that it keeps coming back. Then I try clearing browsing history, uninstalling extension, exiting chrome, going back in, re-installing the extension. Over and over I get the "failed to fetch error".īased on on-line advice, I try disabling my firewall, does not fix it.
